Dime Scale Plans
by Michael A. Morrow

What's a "Dime Scale" model?
A Dime Scale model is a class of rubber-powered flying scale model that is flown in Flying Aces club events. Dime Scale models used to sell in kit form for a dime in the 1930's. They usually had a maximum wingspan of 16 inches, and were of light, simple construction. The Flying Aces club has a Dime Scale/Pseudo Dime scale event that commemorates this class of kits and plans. Models can be built either from original Dime kit plans, or from plans drawn in the same style, so long as similar construction techniques are employed, the wingspan does not exceed 16 inches, the plan fits on an 11 x 17 piece of paper, and wood sizes smaller than 1/16 are not used. They are popular because of their relative simplicity and their nostalgia for the hey-days of stick and tissue construction. They are also relatively small, require a limited amount of materials, building space, and storage space, and can usually be flown both indoors and outdoors.

Blackburn Airedale
LOTS of wing on this dime scaler, and plenty of room for a prop! I've been wanting to do one of these for a LONG time, so finally, here it is!
Detailed enough that you can enter it in FAC Scale too!

This incredibly cute little 12 inch span French sport racer has a monstrous wing, and flies very well.

A very simple box fuselage makes it easy to build (except for the exhaust collector), and makes for a light model.

It has already achieved 57 second flights under a 26 foot ceiling with more available. A real gem!

This cute little English ultra-light has good wing area, and flies very well, having won the local Dime Scale event on it's first outing. Give those Bristol Brownie single-seaters a run for their money with this little red and white gem!
