"Red 13", Serial No. 213240, was the personal aircraft of Oblt. Klaus Faber, and was an exceptionally fast example of the D-9. This color scheme is featured in the book "Doras of the Galland Circus", by Gerry Crandall. The four aircraft featured in this book were all specially painted with red undersides accented by white longitudinal stripes to distinguish them from allied aircraft at low altitudes so German AA crews wouldn't shoot them down. The aircraft were used to protect Me-262s during takeoff and landing when they were most vulnerable.
